Greenville man arrested on gun charges
On January 17, 2025, Kinston Police Department's A-Squad responded to a report of a subject pointing a gun at the McDonald’s restaurant located on W Vernon Avenue. The suspect was reportedly seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle. As officers made their way to the location, they observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Vernon Avenue near Queen Street and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle attempted to evade officers, while a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued the passenger, and after a brief chase, Joshua Wooten, 26, of Greenville, NC, was apprehended. Wooten, a convicted felon, was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, going armed to the terror of the public, resisting arrest (two counts), and littering. He remains in the custody of the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.
The driver of the vehicle, Anthony Wooten, 24, of Fort Campbell, KY, was cited for resisting a public officer, misdemeanor fleeing to elude, driving while license revoked, and several additional traffic violations.
