Greene Lamp partnered with Samaritan's Feet to bring 1,600 pairs of shoes for children, adults, and seniors to Kinston as part of their Defeeting Poverty Community Resource Fair. The resource fair is being held at Grainger Stadium, in the parking lot until 1:00 pm.
Kids On Stage will perform Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. from July 22, 2022, through July 24, 2022, at the Greene County Wellness Center. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or at www.gckidsonstage.org doors will open 45 minutes before the show.
Kids On Stage officially announced their first two shows of the 2022-2023 season. This season's theme is “Something To Believe In.”
The Greene Central High School Band has been selected by The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to receive new instruments. These new instruments include tubas, euphoniums, French horns, tenor saxophones, alto saxophones, trumpet, trombones, and a bass drum. The total retail value of this donation is over $40,000.
Greene Central hosts the annual baseball camp. This camp is put on through Greene County Parks and Recreation Department and Greene Central has hosted this camp for over 40 years. This four-day camp is open for kids aged 5-13 and it covers the fundamentals of baseball. Hitting, throwing, catching, baserunning, and position play were all covered during this camp.
Kids On Stage is set to perform Nickelodeon’s “The SpongeBob Musical” June 17, 2022 through June 19, 2022, at the Greene County Wellness Center. Patrons have four different opportunities to see this show, tickets are $10. June 17 at 7:00 pm, June 18 at 2:00 pm, June 18 at 7:00 pm, and June 19 at 3:00 pm. Doors will open 45 minutes before the show.
Changes are happening within Greene County Schools. Greene Early College High School will get a new principal. Mr. Taylor Moore will take over as principal for Greene Early College. The current principal, Dr. Rodney McNeill, will become the new Executive Director of Human Capital effective July 1.
Greene County Middle School announced this week that Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation has selected them to receive new band instruments. These instruments include three baritones, five flutes, three tenor saxophones, two bass clarinets, and five trombones.
Greene Early College held their annual award day ceremony where they announced the recipients of four different scholarships. Yahir Ponce, Dorien Sutton, Lorien Stocks, Madia Harris, and Monejah Rouse, together, received a total of $18,000.

The Greene County School System announced that Allie Gray has been selected as the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year for Greene County Schools. Mrs. Gray is a fifth-grade teacher at Greene County Intermediate School.
Greene County High School seniors walked the halls of the five different Greene County schools dressed in their cap and gown. In addition to this tradition being a morale booster for the end of the school year, this also gives children a glimpse into what it will look like when they graduate.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office announced on their Facebook page that Greene County citizens can contact the Sheriff’s Office to schedule home security checks.
Greene County Department of Social Services (DSS) held a child abuse awareness memorial ceremony on April 20, 2022. The memorial ceremony and balloon release were held at the Greene County Courthouse.
