A passionate public turnout dominated Monday’s Lenoir County budget work session, as volunteer firefighters and community members took the podium to urge commissioners to reconsider proposed reductions in fire tax rates amid rising costs and property revaluations.
The Kinston City Council covered a full slate of action items Tuesday evening, advancing local development projects, community initiatives, and public safety permits during its regularly scheduled meeting at City Hall.
As a third-generation volunteer firefighter and a 19-year member of the fire service, I care deeply about protecting our community and ensuring that local fire departments are equipped to respond to emergencies and protect the citizens they serve. I currently serve as a captain and a member of the Board of Directors for North Lenoir Fire & Rescue, and I am deeply concerned about a proposed reduction in our county’s volunteer fire department tax rates that I believe puts public safety at risk.

Congressman Don Davis toured the Stewart ICE Detention Facility in Lumpkin, Georgia, on Thursday, April 24. The trip marks the third detention facility Congressman Davis has visited in 2025, following visits to Alamance County ICE Detention Facility in Graham, NC, and Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.

I hope you and your family are doing well. We've had a productive month in Raleigh — filled with constituent meetings, legislative research, bill drafting, and votes on several key priorities.
Snow Hill - On Friday, February 28, Greene County Middle School presented a celebration of Black History featuring Rep. Don Davis (D-NC 1) as a guest speaker for the event. The event was a culmination of events from throughout the month leading up to the “Old Skool vs. New Skool” program that was presented.
Recently, rural Eastern North Carolinians have been put through the wringer. Many of us are still recovering from Hurricane Helene and trying to make ends meet after losing our homes and businesses. But while the storm rightfully got a lot of attention, there are other ways that life has become more difficult for rural communities here – particularly when it comes to accessing healthcare – and few people are paying attention.
