On Monday, December 19th, during the Board of Education meeting in Greene County three board members were sworn in. New Board of Education members include Darius Shackleford and Mason Dyer, and the returning member, Leisa Batts.
On Monday, what was supposed to be a normal school day turned into an interesting one at Rochelle Middle School. When students showed up to the cafeteria for their normal lunch period, they were excited to see their Principal Terry Wooten serving them lunch. Principal Wooten stepped up to the plate when she found out that the cafeteria was short-staffed on Monday.
Every year, students from other countries come to America as part of a Student Exchange Program. This year, the Kennedy family is one of the host families to have an exchange student. The Kennedy family lives in Lenoir County and they are hosting Martje Tammen from Lower Saxony, Germany. As part of the program, Martje attends South Lenoir High School as a junior.
The Lenoir County Board of Commissioners will hold their regular meeting on Monday December 5, 2022, the regular meeting of the Commissioners will begin at 10:00 am in the Board’s Main Meeting Room of the Lenoir County Courthouse, 130 South Queen Street, Kinston, North Carolina.
On Saturday, the Kinston Police Department hosted community training sessions funded by the U.S. Department of Justice grant. The workshop is through a partnership with Polis technology and the You & Five-O training firm and part of the T3 – Tact, Tactics, and Trust™ training. The purpose of the training is to offer this innovative community trust building training to our citizens, so we can continue to build our strong connections within our community.

On September 24, 2022, The Lenoir County SPCA collaborated with PetSense in Kinston to host an Adoptathon Event. The event is used to bring community together for a common goal to support the dogs and cats looking for furr-ever homes. The year 2020 was rough on attendance aboard the CSS Neuse II, a full-scale replica of the original Confederate Ram once housed on the Neuse River at Kinston. In 2017, 2018, and 2019 the replica gunboat drew more than 5,000 visitors each year. In 2020, roughly one-third of that number visited the gunboat.
