Battalion 1 arrived on scene to a working fire from single story wood frame residential home with 50% involvement and established command .

W.E. "Billy" Smith Detention Center forced to transfer inmates to other counties
Lenoir County built the later named W.E. “Billy” Smith Detention Center a little over six years ago to keep inmates in-county and reduce the financial burden on Lenoir County taxpayers. Today, staffing shortages at the Lenoir County jail have led to approximately 35 inmates being housed in other counties at a cost of $50 per day per inmate.
