GHSP Operation & Stolen Vehicle Arrest
On June 28, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office led a Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) proactive enforcement operation across the county. The effort included 31 officers from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Craven County Sheriff’s Office, Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, Kinston Police Department, Grifton Police Department, and Pink Hill Police Department.
The operation resulted in:
83 citations
66 warnings
7 arrests
1 DWI
3 felony drug charges
3 misdemeanor drug charges
10 felony criminal charges
5 misdemeanor criminal charges
4 fugitives arrested on outstanding warrants
Sheriff Jackie Rogers stated, “We are committed to keeping Lenoir County safe and deeply appreciate the collaboration with our law enforcement partners throughout the region.”
During the operation, deputies intercepted a stolen vehicle traveling from Tarboro to Lenoir County. When deputies attempted a traffic stop in La Grange, the vehicle fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit through western Lenoir County. Sheriff Jackie Rogers assisted in the chase, along with members of the Sheriff’s Crash Reduction Team. Tire deflation devices and pursuit tactics were used safely and effectively. The pursuit ended with a successful PIT maneuver, and no injuries were reported.
Three individuals were taken into custody from the stolen vehicle:
15-year-old male (Lenoir County)
Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
(2) Counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on Law Enforcement Officer
Felony Conspiracy
Multiple misdemeanor charges
Placed in secure custody with the NC Department of Juvenile Justice
Notably, this same juvenile fled from Lenoir County deputies on an ATV just one month prior to this incident.
