Lenoir County restaurant inspections
The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:
Bojangles
3007 N Herritage Street, Kinston

Observations:
Employee does not sanitize washed and rinsed clear food storage pan with lid and dispensing utensil.
Bo Rounds, Chicken Filets, Steak in areas of pans that were too far away from the heat source or either receiving cool air from the open drive-through window were held below 135f .
All foods (slaw, whole tomatoes, cheese, etc) in walk-in refrigerator are 45-46F.
Also, at one point the walk-in was wide open with no employees inside. Also, the door sometimes does not close completely due to the top closer not functioning correctly.
Dial, stem-type thermometer is not accurate by approximately 4 degrees.
Plastic, foil-covered pan of lemons stored in ice bin and is in contact with ice used for beverages.
The temperature of the detergent solution while washing shall maintain 110F or above while washing no matter whether you add hot water to the existing water or whether you drain and refill.
Floors of reach-ins, gaskets, backs of handles, and detail areas are soiled.
Dumpster has a broken lid and an open lid.
Byrds Restaurant

Maintain equipment in good repair. Bottom grate missing from RIC in the kitchen.
Mops should be flipped upside down to allow mop head to dry without contaminating the handle of the mop.

Employee hand-wash sinks do not have trash can or waste receptacle readily available or in the area of the hand-wash sinks.
Spicy Tomatoes made yesterday in walk in cooler had mold in them.
Various utensils and a pot were observed with baked on food or food remains and were not thoroughly cleaned well.
Labels were missing from many containers of Viv's kitchen food. Ready to eat foods shall be properly labeled and dated for holding for more than 24 hours.

Middle prep unit cooler on front line is not holding temperature well. This unit has been an issue for a while, as is currently off and being used for storage.
No test strips available to test the sanitizer. Establishment shall obtain.
Build up of crumbs, debris, etc observed at the bottom of the refrigerators for Viv' Kitchen, on the bottom shelf of the prep table in kitchen, on the racks in the freezer, and on top of the ice machine, etc. Mold present on top of the door and surrounding area of the ice machine.
There is a leak at the three compartment dish sink under the wash compartment.
Dumpster was observed to be open.
In the dish room area, there are places were the grout is missing from the tiles. Rust was observed on the a/c vents.
Build up of dirt, crumbs, debris, etc are present on the floors, walls and cleanings.
Dust build up is present on and around a/c vents on ceiling.
Falling Creek Mart

Potato Wedges in Hot Holding Cabinet temping at 120 degrees.
Hold in-use wiping cloths in properly concentrated sanitizer between uses. Wet wiping cloths found in between equipment.
Single-use and single-service articles cannot be reused. Single service spoons being used as scoop for potato salad.
Inside of drawers and shelves in kitchen have dust, dirt, and crumbs present from use. Establishment shall clean and maintain.
Additional cleaning is needed on the wall behind the grill. Establishment shall clean and maintain.
Fatbaby's Country Cooking

Additional cleaning needed on gaskets and dry storage shelving.
Observed leak at the faucet on the prep sinks next to the hand-wash sink in back room.
Observed water surfacing and tire tracks in the septic field.
Walls and ceilings and floors observed to need additional cleaning. Walls in 3-comp sink area need to be cleaned.
Floors in dry storage area are flaking, some FRP board behind hot holding wells needs to be sealed to wall and gaps and holes filled.
Queen Street Deli & Bakery
115 S Queen Street, Kinston

Carts are rusty, hinge on lift top door prep unit is coming off. Shelves inside walk in cooler are rusting or sealant is wearing off.
Build up observed on shelves, in the bottoms of cooler units and on gaskets.
Dust still present on a/c units/fans. Food debris is gathering under equipment.
The Corner Deli

Observations:
The lavatory in the back room is difficult to access and the paper towels are not dispensing. Provide clear access to hand-wash lavatories at all times and provide 100+ degree water, soap and hand drying devices.
A container of slaw did not have date marking on it. Make sure all ready to eat foods held over 24 hours are date marked and not held over 7 days.
Flies present in the deli area. Maintain active pest control.
Some additional cleaning needed on the splash guard in the front deli area and lower shelves of prep table. The canisters need exterior cleaning.
The lavatory in the front deli area is visibly soiled. Make sure all fixtures are cleaned daily or more often if necessary.
