Come to downtown Kinston to enjoy the latest whole hog bbq competition
The BBQ Fest on the Neuse is back and even the governor has noticed. The annual festival held in Kinston is home to one of the world's largest whole hog cook-offs and everyone who missed last year’s festival because of COVID is ready to come out and enjoy the flavorful North Carolina staple.
The festival is a great way for the community to get together and explore historic downtown Kinston.
"Everybody is going to be outside together again and enjoy an event together, while social distancing but having a great time together and once again enjoy Eastern North Carolina at its best. What is better than having some barbecue?" said Jan Parson, Festival Director.
When the festival is about BBQ, hungry patrons of the event will not be disappointed. Barbecue plates and sandwiches are going to be sold at the event.
"They are extremely generous portions and come with potato salad, coleslaw, and hushpuppies, or you can get a sandwich, which also has generous portions," said Wil King Hog Happenin’ Chair Tammy Kelly. "Aside from that, we have our own sauce which is 'hands down’ the best you have had on BBQ!"
Though the tradition was placed on hold last year, the BBQ Fest on the Neuse is going all out to make this one an event that will not want to be missed.
"One can look forward to great family fun, live music, great bbq, and a wide variety of vendors," said Waylon Adams, BBQ Fest Chairman. "Just an all-around great day to come to downtown Kinston to enjoy the latest whole hog bbq competition in the state. We missed out last year, so I think everyone is ready for this year's festival!"
The 2021 BBQ Fest on the Neuse is being held on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8. Governor Roy Cooper issued a statement this week recognizing the festival.
"While the festival will look a little different this year, the BBQ Festival on the Neuse remains an important part of our state and city's tourism industry and we invite people to attend and take the opportunity to see what Kinston has to offer," said Governor Cooper in a proclamation.
