A Lenoir County Jail inmate has been charged in the death of a fellow inmate in a Jan. 20 incident at the detention center.
Authorities arrived at Kinston High School after the School Resource Officer (SRO) requested assistance after students got into a fight. Local law enforcement assisted and the situation is over. The school is secure. Officers remained on site and are walking the halls. In addition to the fight, someone pulled the fire alarm.
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office has charged two fathers in connection with incidents involving minor children gaining access to loaded firearms with devastating consequences.
The state’s seasonally adjusted December 2023 unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, unchanged from November’s revised rate. The national rate remained unchanged at 3.7 percent.

The death of a child is already a tragedy, but when the loss might have been preventable the heartbreak is compounded. In a few short weeks, two children were able to access loaded guns in the community and a three year old lost his life. This incident has not only caused the community to grieve but also sparked a vital conversation about the measures needed to avert similar occurrences in the future.

Following the conclusion of Tuesday night’s boys’ varsity basketball game at Arendell Parrott Academy between APA and visiting John Paul II Catholic High School from Greenville, there was an altercation between some fans and APA’s security staff.
On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to Holiday Inn Express, 1156 Hill Farm Rd. Kinston, N.C., in reference to the discovery of tenants manufacturing counterfeit money.
