Parrott Academy’s junior and senior competitive shooting teams won a place on the podium in the District 2 NC Hunter Education Tournament held April 10th . Sponsored by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, the tournament lets young marksmen compete in shotgun, rifle, and archery events, as well as hunter skills testing.

Parrott Academy advisor nationally recognized

The College Board recently honored Parrott Academy college advisor Mitzi Moye with the Counselor Recognition Award. According to the College Board, the award is given to “exemplary school counseling professionals who are proven lifelong learners, collaborators, and advocates.” Moye is one of only eight North Carolina counselors to receive this recognition.

Parrott Hall of Fame Inducts 12

Parrott Academy’s 2020 class of twelve Hall of Fame inductees was honored at a ceremony on February 5th. Inductees were Tiffany Barnes, Matt Beaman, Jordan Blount, Bert Bright, Jaclyn Ervin, Justin Good, Jesse Grant III, Mary Margaret Herring, Mark Keener, Preston Manning, Robert Mooring Jr., and Billy Taylor.

Happiness is a warm puppy for APA 4th graders

“Animals get cold this time of year! We want to make a big difference for them,” explained Parrott Academy fourth grader Londyn Vick as she placed another donated blanket on the pile in her classroom. She is one of 46 fourth graders who spent three weeks in January asking friends and family to donate old blankets, sheets, mattress covers, and other textiles to help the Lenoir County SPCA replenish animal bedding.

Parrott yearbook wins recognition

For the sixth consecutive year, Parrott Academy’s Patriot yearbook won a Gold Medal in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association national competition. And for the fourth consecutive year, the Patriot won the All-North Carolina rating from the NC Scholastic Media Association, one of only ten yearbooks in the state to receive this honor.

Parrott Academy marks anniversary

As 2020 closes, Arendell Parrott Academy marks the end of its 55th year as an educational and economic force in Lenoir County and eastern North Carolina. Founded in 1964 by a small group of local citizens, the academy has grown from 123 students in 1965 to this fall’s enrollment of 667.

Parrott French Students Create Tales

Six Parrott Academy students finished their first semester of French IV with a unique creative writing project. Designed by French teacher Sadie Crockett, the assignment asked the high schoolers to compose and illustrate an original children’s story in French for an audience of elementary school French students.

Holiday concert brings masked music to Parrott

On December 4th Parrott Academy’s annual Holiday Concert provided cheer to lower school students, even as performers were masked and the audience was masked and socially distanced. The traditional all-school assembly was replaced by three concerts for smaller groups of the school’s youngest classes.
