We’re finally here - Election Day! As many people vented their frustrations about national, state, and local politics on social media this election (and I’m sure it’s not over, gahhhhhh), it’s common to see heated debates, complaints, and accusations aimed at politicians and the government. However, real change doesn’t come from being a keyboard warrior—it comes from taking action.
Recently I heard a conversation between a talk show host and his guest. In discussing the present run-away inflation and the many failed policies of the present administration, the guest observed that, “I can’t think of anything positive about the Biden administration. It’s all going in the wrong direction. Even those who hate Trump must admit that at least we had a lot of good things going our way.”

Recently, I was in a friend’s office concerning a matter unrelated to politics, but we ended up discussing the upcoming presidential election. His first comment was in a forceful tone: "We've left God out! We've got to get back with being a Godly society!" With that as a starter, let me identify our two basic problems as I see it:
Mail-in balloting has always been viewed with skepticism because it is conducted outside the supervision and overview of elected officials and it destroys the secret ballot concept and allows states to send out ballots to every registered voter in the state, with very little or no supervision. This is distinctly different from what we know as absentee balloting.
When Jones County voters go to the polls on Nov. 6, some will head to a different location thanks to Hurricane Florence.
Lenoir County Commissioners accepted the termination of the Woodmen Community Center agreement, Tuesday, in a four to two vote. County Commissioner J Mac Daughety said the commissioner's unanimously agreed to get out of the original Woodmen agreement. “Our disagreement was on how to get out of the agreement,” Daughety said.
