The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 1111 of Kinston North Carolina recently visited House of Morgan, a local artisan that creates pewter jewelry and household items. Amanda Morgan Co-Owner provided a tour of the workshop and explained the history behind pewter making within the Morgan family. Auxiliary members were able to observe the steps it takes from design to pouring the molds to casting the items to polishing the final products before packing them to be sold.
Standing inside Lenoir Lock & Key Service, a veteran-owned business in Kinston, U.S. Rep. Don Davis, D-N.C., announced new legislation aimed at easing the transition for military service members moving from active duty to civilian life. The bill focuses on career development and business opportunities for veterans, ensuring they have the resources to secure jobs or start their own businesses after service.
The local VFW Post 2771 invites community members to help place flags on veteran graves in Lenoir County on May 18, 2025. Volunteers will meet at the Walk of Honor before dispersing to the graveyards. The VFW encourages as many people as possible to join this tribute.
Sneads Ferry - In the spirit of holiday giving, eight-year-old Tucker Rose is spearheading the annual “Salute to Veterans” Christmas card drive, aiming to deliver festive cheer to Veterans at the local VA home in Kinston, NC. Starting from Veterans Day and continuing until Christmas Eve, this initiative is now in its fourth successful year.

ORIGINAL: According to family members of three separate residents at the Kinston-based North Carolina State Veterans Home, there is at least one positive COVID-19 case there. One family reports they received a phone call from Human Resources last night as notification of the case.
Most Baby Boomers can remember the veteran celebrations of our youth. Families lined the streets, waving flags and cheering, as veterans marched past during parades held to honor Veterans Day and Memorial Day. For some reason, enthusiastic displays in support of those who are defending, and have defended our freedom, seem to have faded.
The 19th Annual SALUTE! Pre-Veterans Day celebration is changing things up a bit. They're inviting the public to join them in the parade on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 am on Herritage Street. It's free to participate and anyone and any Veteran can show up by 10:30 am at the Hardees at the corner of Vernon and Herritage Street and be a part of the parade.
There will be a National POW/MIA ceremony Sept. 20 at the Neuseway Nature Center.
