Michael Waters, 56, was pronounced dead around 10 a.m. today after detention officers were alerted to an inmate who was having a medical emergency. Detention officers responded immediately to his cell and began rendering aid to Waters and EMS was called; the facility nurse was also called to the cell.
The inmate that passed away in the Lenoir County Jail on Saturday is Stephanie Osowski, 40, of Millsboro, Delaware.
A Dudley man was arrested today on 14 felony charges and placed in the Lenoir County Jail in response to multiple larceny and breaking-and-entering incidents at area sweepstakes businesses. The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office has been actively investigating the incidents since late July.
Lenoir County built the later named W.E. “Billy” Smith Detention Center a little over six years ago to keep inmates in-county and reduce the financial burden on Lenoir County taxpayers. Today, staffing shortages at the Lenoir County jail have led to approximately 35 inmates being housed in other counties at a cost of $50 per day per inmate.
