The 2024 North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region Forklift Rodeo, held on Tuesday, October 15th, at Wayne Community College, was a resounding success. KPD"s C-Squad officers were searching the area of Dixon Street for a report of shots fired. Officers made contact with Sentelle Leonard (24 of Goldsboro, NC) in the area and discovered he was illegally concealing a handgun.
On May 23, 2024, Kinston Police attempted to arrest Demetrius Williams, 36, of Goldsboro, resulting in an officer-involved shooting and a subsequent vehicle pursuit. Williams, who was found with a firearm, marijuana, and cocaine in his vehicle, was charged with multiple felonies and placed in Lenoir County Jail without bond. The NC SBI is assisting with the investigation into the shooting while the department conducts its own internal review.
Case Update During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Tyghjheri Jones, 20, of Goldsboro. On April 5, 2024, members of the Kinston Police Department, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, and State Bureau of Investigation devised a plan to apprehend Jones.
