NWS Morehead City: Severe weather possible Thursday and Friday

NWS Morehead City: Severe weather possible Thursday and Friday

Thursday:

The first round of severe thunderstorm potential will be this afternoon and evening along the sea breeze. A second wave of severe weather is possible this evening into tonight as storms move in from the west.  The main hazards associated with today's severe potential will be damaging wind gusts (60+mph) and hail. There is a low risk for minor, localized flash flooding today in areas that have received higher rainfall totals this past week.

Friday:

A cold front will be moving through the region west to east Friday late afternoon into Friday night, bringing with it a line of strong to severe thunderstorms. Damaging wind gusts (60+mph) are the primary concern, with hail secondary. A brief, isolated, weak tornado cannot be ruled out within the line of storms.
