The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Kings Restaurant

405 East New Bern Road, Kinston 

Date: 5/14

Score: 91.5

Observations: 

Observed live roaches in kitchen coming out of unused oven and flies throughout.

In-use utensils, such as ice scoops or utensils for non-TCS food, must be stored in a clean and protected location. One ice scoop stored on visibly dirty table beside back hall ice machine.

Melted gaskets on Chicken Henny Penny. Equipment missing front doors and plates/coverings, so grease is building up inside equipment.

Shelving units, outside/inside refrigerators, floor of walk in coolers, wire racks, clean dishes table, plate rack, dish racks, plate carts, etc. need additional cleaning. 

Leak present at hand-wash sink and 2 comp sink in dish room, as well as the hand-wash sink at the bar.

Ceiling tiles have damage, and holes present on ceiling in storage room. Wallboard coming off the wall and loose in the walk-in-cooler area.

Floors, walls and ceilings need additional cleaning due to build up of dust, grease, flour, etc. Backsplash at plate prep counter is heavily soiled. Bacterial growth still present on ceiling in storage room.

Provide required lighting intensity. Two lights are out under the hood at the cook line. Lighting shall be 50 foot candles where employees are working with food.


The Corner Deli 

200 N Kinston Boulevard, Pink Hill

Observations: 

Establishment shall clearly date mark to allow food to be properly discarded after 7 days.

2 flies present in the deli area. Establishment shall maintain active pest control.

Wall behind hot plate and toaster visibly soiled. Establishment shall clean and maintain.


Cook Out 

4054 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

Staff observed to be putting on gloves without washing hands and wearing gloves and touching many surfaces. Wash hands before donning gloves each time and be aware of tasks being done. 

The labels on foods are batches of the same time. Each individual food item shall have its accurate times on it when placed.

Flies present and likely coming in the 2 drive through windows. Try to keep the outer openings closed as much as possible and keep foods and beverages protected.

Food service staff shall wear only plain band rings, no watches, bracelets, etc. Maintain short fingernails, no polish.

The short lower wire shelf over the utensil sink is rusted and needs cleaning.

The wall and flooring behind the prep refrigerators need to be more thoroughly cleaned.


McDonald's

Observations: 

Several flies are noted this morning. Work with exterminator on fly control and keep foods and beverages covered to prevent flies from getting in them. 


Starbucks Coffee Company 

4177 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

There is a leak present at the faucet of the 3 comp sink. 

Keep dumpster, outside waste containers covered with tight-fitting lids or doors. Dumpster door open.
