LCPS honors top Teacher Assistant and non-instructional Staff Member of the Year
Lenoir County Public Schools is proud to announce the recipients of its Teacher Assistant of the Year and Non-Instructional Classified Staff of the Year awards. Selected from a talented pool of nominees across the district, Salisa Cobb and Andre Clark were surprised with the exciting news on Monday, February 24, when a celebration squad visited their schools to share in their moment of recognition.
Salisa Cobb – Teacher Assistant of the Year
A dedicated and passionate member of the Moss Hill Elementary School team, Salisa Cobb has been serving LCPS for three years. She plays an integral role in school events such as assisting with the harvest festival, school play, and grandparent’s breakfast. Additionally, she provides essential materials for Southeast Elementary School’s Pre-K program, helping to ensure young learners have the resources they need to thrive.
Reflecting on her role in her professional biography, Mrs. Cobb shared, “I enjoy more than anything being able to help children accomplish things that they didn’t expect. The looks on their faces and the happiness of their parents is priceless.” She added, “As a mother of four, I strive to be the teacher, teacher assistant, caregiver, nurturer, etc. that I want my children to experience.”
Moss Hill Principal Jeremy Barnett praised her commitment, stating, “Mrs. Cobb dedicates herself to serving our school and truly wants what’s best for our students. Her love for our students is unmatched, and I am lucky to see the impact she makes on their lives.”
Andre Clark – Non-Instructional Classified Staff of the Year
With seven years of service with LCPS, several being at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School, Andre Clark has become an essential part of the CSS community. His dedication to school nutrition earned him the title of School Nutrition Association’s Employee of the Year for North Carolina in 2020. A leader in his field, he has also served as the President of the School Nutrition Association. Beyond his work in the cafeteria, he contributes as a bus monitor for exceptional children, as an assistant football/basketball coach, and is heavily involved in the school’s Hospitality Program.
Mr. Clark shared his philosophy on service in his professional biography, stating, “I believe that hard work and dedication bring out the best in anyone that focuses and has that positive drive to professionalism.” He added, “If I can be a positive role model for our future generations to see that we ALL can make it, then I will be on the front lines.”
Dr. Heather Walston, Principal at CSS, praised his impact, saying, “Mr. Clark does an AMAZING job making sure our students feel comfortable and happy! He loves our kids and wants to make sure they are not only fed but happy when they are coming through the line. He is amazing at his job and has had such a positive impact on our cafeteria.”
Both honorees will be recognized at the upcoming Teacher of the Year banquet on April 10th, where they will be celebrated for their outstanding contributions to Lenoir County Public Schools.
