Pink Hill Eggstravaganza Festival grows Into annual tradition

PINK HILL, N.C. – What began as a simple Easter egg hunt nine years ago has blossomed into a full-scale festival that draws thousands of attendees each year. The Pink Hill Eggstravaganza Festival, set for its ninth annual celebration, remains a completely free event for the community, offering entertainment, family-friendly activities, and a showcase of local businesses.

Dr. Jennifer Murphy, a volunteer with the festival, reflected on the festival’s growth. “We started as just an egg hunt and now have a full festival,” she said. “It is still a completely free event to the community.”

The festival’s mission is to create an accessible, unifying event for the surrounding communities. “Our purpose is to provide a festival that is accessible to all in our surrounding communities,” Murphy said. “It’s a unifying event offering us a chance for our whole area to come together.”

While the festival is primarily about fun, it also serves as a way to engage the community and support local fundraising efforts. “The festival helps bring people to Pink Hill to help promote how special our town is and all that it has to offer,” Murphy said. “Any extra funds we raise go to the next event and other groups in the community for their fundraising.”

Organized by the Pink Hill Festival Committee, the event has grown significantly, with an estimated 3,000 attendees, including 1,500 children, expected this year.

Festivalgoers can enjoy performances by Ubi the Clown and the Hula Hoop Lady, a 360-degree photography experience, bouncy houses and slides, and of course, an appearance by the Easter Bunny.

The highly anticipated Easter egg hunts are divided by age groups:

  • Ages 0-3

  • Ages 4-6

  • Ages 7-10

Approximately 10,000 eggs will be hidden, some containing special numbers that indicate a larger prize, such as a stuffed animal or Easter basket.

The festival is backed by a variety of local sponsors and partners, including Sitterson and Whitfield, H&H, East Carolina Insurance and Financial, Pink Hill Wellness Center, Two Preppy Girls, Pink Hill Ruritans, Pink Hill Chiropractic, East Carolina Broadband, Tower 110, GFL, Thrivent, Faith Lutheran Church, First Citizens Bank, Pink Hill Library, and more.

Local businesses benefit from the increased traffic, and this year’s event will feature nearly 40 vendors, thanks to a collaboration with Jessica Kennedy and her vendor fair group. Churches and businesses will also be on display, offering gifts and sponsorships.

“This event provides fun and entertainment to those who may not have the means to travel to larger city festivals,” Murphy said.

Volunteers play a critical role in the success of the Eggstravaganza Festival, and organizers are always looking for more help. “If we want to expand the festival and make it more, we need all the help we can get,” Murphy said. “We take volunteers of all ages.”

As the Eggstravaganza Festival continues to grow, it remains a beloved small-town tradition, bringing joy to families and strengthening the Pink Hill community year after year.
