Lenoir County Deputies Safely Remove Suicidal Man After Hours-Long Standoff
A suicidal man who barricaded himself in a house for several hours was successfully removed from the house by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office officials Thursday night.
The man was inside a house on U.S. 258 South near Woodington Middle School. LCSO deputies arrived on the scene a little after 4:30 p.m. and LCSO Sgt. Alfonso Rodriguez was the first deputy to speak with the individual. LCSO Sgt. Eric Carlyle arrived on the scene and talked to the individual until he was removed from the residence.
After more than two hours of conversation with the individual, he still refused to come out, so Special Response Team (SRT) members went into the home at approximately 7:15 p.m. and brought him out; he had barricaded himself inside a bathroom.
Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers praised his deputies for their excellent work.
“Our SRT members and Sgt.’s Rodriguez and Carlyle did an outstanding job with understanding the situation and then safely removing him from the residence with no injuries to him or my deputies,” Rogers said. "The subject is now on his way to the hospital for evaluation."
