160th Anniversary: Wyse Fork Battlefield Tour commemorates a pivotal Civil War Battle
The Friends of the CSS Neuse are proud to present the 160th Anniversary: Wyse Fork Battlefield Tour on Friday, March 7, 2025 and Saturday, March 8, 2025. This special event will offer a rare opportunity to explore the battlefield where Union and Confederate forces clashed in one of the largest engagements fought in North Carolina during the Civil War.
Guided by knowledgeable historians, attendees will walk the very ground where, in March 1865, Confederate troops made a desperate stand to slow the Union advance on Kinston. This battle was a critical moment in the final days of the war, as it shaped the Union’s push toward Goldsboro and ultimately contributed to the fall of the Confederacy.
The tour will provide insights into the strategies, troop movements, and personal stories of those who fought at Wyse Fork. Participants will have the chance to visit key battlefield locations, learn about the role of the CSS Neuse in the conflict, and engage in discussions with historians dedicated to preserving this important chapter of American history.
This event is open to the public, and history enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to attend. More details, including time, meeting location, and any required registration, can be found on the Friends of the CSS Neuse Facebook page.
Join us as we commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Wyse Fork and honor those who fought on both sides of this historic conflict.
