Previous Release
Two suspects were arrested and another is still being sought for a larceny that took place Thursday on Brothers Road in La Grange.
On Thursday, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a larceny in progress at a residence at 4286 Brothers Road in La Grange. While the deputies were on their way to the location, Lenoir County Communications told them the victim gave a description of the suspects’ vehicle, described what the suspects looked like and their direction of travel as they fled from the scene.
D-Shift deputies and LCSO detectives arrived in the area quickly and spoke to the victim on scene, who advised them the suspects had attempted to steal an Airburst Well the night before but that it was too heavy. The owner found it in a ditch nearby.
The victim told investigators the suspects returned to attempt to steal the well again, along with some metal pipes to install the well.
A little while later, deputies responded to the area of Brothers Road near W.P. Hardy Road and took Christopher Paul Mewborn, 39, of Snow Hill and Makayla Blaine Raynor, 30, of Lenoir County into custody. Both were transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where they were charged with felony larceny and felony conspiracy.
Mewborn received no bond due to being on pretrial release while Raynor received a $10,000 secured bond; she was later released after posting bond.
The third suspect, Corey Charles Watson, 28, of Lenoir County is being sought in connection with these crimes. If you know where Watson is, please call the LCSO at 252-559-6118 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444.
