Friends of the Homeless holds open house for World Homeless Day
In recognition of World Homeless Day, a local homeless shelter in Lenoir and Greene Counties is inviting law enforcement and the community to visit their facility on October 10th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The shelter provides over 4,000 nights of shelter each year to 275 individuals, including men, women, and families. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the shelter's services, which include meals, laundry facilities, and other essential amenities often unknown to the public.
World Homeless Day seeks to raise awareness about homelessness and its underlying causes, such as the rising cost of living and inadequate housing. The shelter hopes this open house will help demystify the stigma surrounding homelessness and inspire local efforts to address the issue.
