15-year-old leads LCSO on 110 MPH chase, crashes vehicle

A 15-year-old driver reached speeds of 110 miles per hour in a chase with a Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputy early Saturday morning before crashing his vehicle.

On Saturday at 2:57 a.m., LCSO Dep. Brendon Grant attempted to stop a vehicle on N.C. 11 South near the Jackson Heights community. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as a 15-year-old juvenile, turned his headlights off and attempted to elude the deputy.

During the chase, the juvenile driver reached speeds of 110 mph and drove through red lights at Skinner’s Bypass, Herritage Street and Queen Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and struck the Juvenile Services building at 201 East King Street in Kinston.

Following the crash, the juvenile attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended by the deputy behind the Kinston Police Department. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and there were no injuries.

LCSO officials contacted a Juvenile Services representative to advise them of the damage to the vehicle and to seek a secure custody order for the juvenile. The juvenile representative advised the LCSO to release the juvenile to his parents, which is what the LCSO did.
