Obituary: Brenda Sutton Jones
Brenda Sutton Jones, 82, of Kinston passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at Greendale Forest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Snow Hill, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 22nd at Westview Cemetery in Kinston. The family will receive friends and family at other times at the home of her son, Scot Jones. Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Brenda was born to Hubert Parrott Sutton and Martha Jane Sutton on December 24, 1941. She was a native of Lenoir County and a lifetime member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Seven Springs, NC. Brenda was never at a loss for words and was known for her quick wit, humor, and loving heart. There was always a “one liner” or joke in her arsenal. There was nothing she loved more than whipping up a big pot of collards or a roast and having all her family gathered around her table for Sunday dinner. Cooking was her love language! Her two and half inch banana pudding was always a family favorite.
Brenda, known by many as “Slugger,” also had a love for music. There was never a tune that she couldn’t chime in and sing. Her voice had a similarity to Patsy Cline, and there was nothing better for her kids and grandkids than a jam session with Mama/Nana. Brenda was also an avid reader and spent many hours reading historical novels.
In addition to her parents, Brenda is preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Sutton and W.D. “Shorty” Sutton.
Brenda is survived by her beloved children, Anna Jones Jarman and husband, Johnny; Scot Jones and wife, Beth; and Leigh Jones (Deanna Noble). She is also survived by her grandchildren, John-Teal Jarman and wife, Reagan; Lauren Ashton Jones (Austin), Coltan Jones, and Mason Jones; her great-grandchildren, Stetson Melvin, Hudson Melvin, and Presley Melvin; her brother, Hubert Parrott Sutton (Mary); and sister-in-law, Kylette Sutton. In addition, Brenda is survived by the father of her children, Rodney Jones and wife, Molly; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special caretaker, Mary Artis.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all the food, texts, calls, visits, and prayers.
