Update: Suspect still not located, heavy law enforcement presence in the area

UPDATE 3:15 P.M.:

The search for Ryan Keith Everett continues and remains concentrated in the area of U.S. 258 and Wheat Swamp Road in northern Lenoir County.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Kinston Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation and the State Highway Patrol.

As soon as there is a substantive update, we will pass it along.

UPDATE (11:00 AM, FRIDAY)

UPDATE 11 A.M.:

An update on Ryan Keith Everett’s arrests over the past five months:

June 26: He was charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. Magistrate set the secured bond at $50,000 and he bonded out.

Aug. 6: Everett broke into a house in La Grange, shot at the owner and ran from deputies.

Everett was charged with:

* Felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
* Felony possession of a firearm with altered serial number
* Felony breaking and entering to terrorize
* Felony extortion
* Felony obstruction of justice
* Felony discharging a firearm to incite fear
* Misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon
* Misdemeanor discharging a firearm within city limits
* Misdemeanor resisting a public officer

He was denied bond by magistrate and was later granted a secured bond by a district court judge in the amount of $65,000; he posted bond. Due to a new state law, judges set the bond for people out on pretrial release.

Sept. 18: Everett was involved in a robbery of a business on 258 North in Kinston, stole a vehicle and fled the scene. A manhunt was conducted and he was captured days later on Joe Nunn Rd. He was charged with the following:

* Possession of a firearm by a felon
* Possession of a stolen firearm
* Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number
* Possession of stolen goods
* Possession of a stolen vehicle
* Trafficking methamphetamine
* Maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance

Everett received no bond by a magistrate and later received a $75,000 secured bond by a district court judge. He posted bond.

Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers: "Everett is obviously a flight risk and extremely dangerous to our community."

UPDATE (9:45 A.M., FRIDAY)

·      The two people who were shot last night by the suspect, Ryan Keith Everett, are Dustin Snyder, 37, of Kinston; and Kathryn Sturges, 37, of Snow Hill. Both are in a local hospital and their conditions are unknown at this time. There is not a motive for the shootings at this time

·      Security checks were performed by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office at Banks Middle School this morning; we will continue to monitor and check as the day goes on

UPDATE (6:30 A.M., FRIDAY):

The suspect has not been located. We continue to employ a heavy law enforcement presence, including Special Response Team (SRT) members, in the area.

North Lenoir High School has been searched and is safe for students. There will be a large law enforcement presence around and in the area of the high school today, including a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team in place.

UPDATE:

The suspect in this event is Ryan Keith Everett, 38, from La Grange (photo is attached).

The suspect committed a robbery in Greene County, stole two firearms and went to a Wheat Swamp Road address and shot two individuals.
