Lenoir County homeowner shoots suspect during attempted vehicle break-in

A man who is suspected of breaking and entering into a vehicle at a home on Will Baker Road was shot by the homeowner and is in serious condition at a Greenville hospital.

A man who identified himself as Ryan Lee Burd, 39, of Morrisville was discovered on the side of Will Baker Road by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who were responding to a breaking-and-entering call on the same road a few minutes before midnight Saturday night. The suspect had been shot; deputies immediately began administering first aid and requested additional resources to save the man’s life.

Burd was transported by Lenoir County EMS to a landing zone and flown to the ECU Healthy Medical Center by East Care, where he remains in serious condition.

The shooting is being investigated by the LCSO and the findings will be turned over to the District Attorney’s office for review.
