RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper signed the following bills into law:

  • Senate Bill 762: North Carolina Farm Act of 2022

    AN ACT TO MAKE VARIOUS CHANGES TO THE AGRICULTURAL LAWS OF THIS STATE.

  • House Bill 619: Weston's Law

    AN ACT IMPOSING SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR ELEVATORS IN CERTAIN RESIDENTIAL RENTAL ACCOMMODATIONS, AND DIRECTING THE BUILDING CODE COUNCIL TO AMEND THE STATE BUILDING CODE.

  • House Bill 776: Remote Electronic Notarization

    AN ACT TO EXTEND THE PENSION-SPIKING LITIGATION PAUSE AND THE REPORT DEADLINE AND TO CLARIFY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM FOR ELIGIBLE EMPLOYERS THAT DO NOT HAVE TAXING AUTHORITY.

  • House Bill 159: Education Law Changes

    AN ACT TO MAKE VARIOUS CHANGES TO EDUCATION LAWS.

  • House Bill 792: Barbers/Electrolysis Boards/Merger

    AN ACT TO MERGE THE BARBER AND ELECTROLYSIS LICENSING BOARDS AND TO MAKE OTHER CHANGES.

Governor Cooper made the following statement on HB 619:

"This law requires much-needed safety measures for elevators in short-term rentals, and while this action sadly can’t reverse the tragedy that killed Weston Androw, it does mean better protection to prevent future injuries and deaths."
