Pollocksville Fire Department improves fire suppression rating

Pollocksville Volunteer Fire Department posted the following on their Facebook page.
We are pleased to announce an improvement to our fire suppression rating from NCDOI/OSFM. Not only were we able to go from a 6/9E to a 5/9E (lower numbers are better!), but we were also able to utilize our new tanker truck to be graded by the water haul method. This will help those who reside more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant. This is a big deal for the community!
1. Those who live within our 5-mile district from the station qualify for the new and improved 5 rating, regardless of distance from a hydrant.
2. Those who live outside of the 5-mile district, but within our Extended 6-mile district from the station retain their 9 rating (this number cannot be lowered).
Ratings take effect October 1. Please contact your homeowner’s insurance agency/company to take advantage of this improved rating as applicable.
Our firefighters worked hard to achieve this. Please thank them when you see them!!! We’d also like to thank Jones County Fire Marshal Timmy Pike, Lenoir County Communications, Jones County Water Department, Town of Pollocksville Public Works, and most definitely our automatic mutual aid departments at Maysville, Trenton, Rhems, and No. 7 Township for their support in preparing for the inspection.
