Lenoir Community College will hold a Disaster Preparedness Event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 29 in and near the Health Sciences Building on campus.
This will be the time that EMS students are dispatched to the scene of the accident (motorcycle parking lot). East Care's aircraft will land in the Health Sciences Parking lot. There will be an Emergency Department and an Operating Room set up on the first level of the Health Sciences Building.
DETAILS
• ADN level 1, ADN level 2, PN, Surgical Tech, EMS, and Cosmetology students will be involved.
• Outside agencies involved include: East Care, the Fire Department, and Campus Security.
• The purpose of this event is to educate EMS and ADN level 2 students about the different aspects of disaster preparedness and response. EMS students will utilize their triage, assessment, and treatment skills when responding to the scene of a mass casualty incident. ADN level 2 students will be responsible for receiving patients from EMS and anticipating the next course of treatment that a patient will need in the acute phase of a trauma. PN students will assist ADN level 2 students in the acute phase of care within their scope of practice. ADN level 1 students will act as patients requiring them to think of how the patient would appear symptom-wise and emotionally. Surgical Tech students will anticipate what Operating Room (OR) set up will be needed depending on the patient's injury and prepare the patient for surgery. Cosmetology students will utilize their skills to assist with making fake injuries come to life using makeup and moulage kits.
