Rogers beats Ingram to become Lenoir County Sheriff
On February 24, 2022, Jackie Rogers filed to be a candidate for Lenoir County Sheriff. Last night, the voters of Lenoir County made their choice, naming Rogers as their sheriff-elect. With more than 30 years in law enforcement, Rogers platformed on making Lenoir County a safer place to live and raise families.
“Congratulations to my childhood friend and fellow South Lenoir High School graduate Jackie Rogers for Lenoir County Sheriff on his election as Sheriff of Lenoir County!” said NC Senator Jim Perry. “I am incredibly happy for him, and proud of his efforts.”
Rogers defeated Sheriff Ronnie Ingram who attempted to secure his third term after running unopposed in 2018.
“It was exciting,” said Rogers of his win. “First we had uncertainty, but then we came through. We’re ready to go to work!”
During his campaign, Rogers pledged to work with the education system to improve the safety of kids and teachers. Also, to work with local first responders, surrounding counties, as well as state and federal agencies to reduce crime in Lenoir County.
“I appreciate the support,” said Rogers. “We are prepared to go in the office running. We look forward to serving.”
Ingram posted a response to the election on Facebook thanking his staff, supporters and the citizens of Lenoir County.
“I’m immensely grateful to everyone in this organization,” said Ingram. “We’ve done amazing work during my tenure. And to my successor, Jackie Rogers, I congratulate you and much success in the future.”
Other local election results include J. Mac Daughtey retained his commissioner seat for District 1, Eric Rouse retained his commissioner seat for District 2, Roland Best retained his commissioner seat in District 5, Michelle Cash beat Billy Davis in the primaries and ran unopposed in the general election for District 1, Keith King retained his seat on the school board for District 2, and W.D. Anderson defeated Jonathan Britt to retain his seat for school board for District 5. Clerk of Superior Court candidate Mary Alphin defeated Brooketah Banks and Rachel Turner.
