Greene County Middle School wins grant for community engagement
Snow Hill - Greene County Middle School (GCMS) has been named the recipient of a North Carolina Community Foundation Grant. The grant in the amount of $1,200 was awarded to the school to help develop and fund their Community and Engagement Activities and Goals.
Principal Diane Blackman spoke with the staff early on this school year about the importance of increasing the schools present throughout the community. Throughout the first few weeks of school, teachers have worked to develop effective relationships with families. The staff and administration are working hard to develop effective parent and community partnerships.
Greene County Middle School has identified family and community engagement as a goal with in the school’s Improvement Plan. During the Pandemic, GCMS realized, as most schools did, that one of the greatest challenges was finding ways to keep families engaged. Now post pandemic, the school is seeing an increase in family involvement.
A parent advisory committee has been established, and the school has hosted 2 large family events so far. The school’s first curriculum night had over 400 people in attendance. They recently hosted a Trunk or Treat/ Fall Festival with a large turnout. The school plans to use these funds to help plan and develop family engagement activities to further build the bridge between school and family.
