Ribbon cutting ceremony for Trenton Fire Department's new firehouse

Recently, the Trenton Fire Department unveiled their new building in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Trent River rose to historic levels during Hurricane Florence and Trenton was one of the counties hit the hardest by the natural disaster.

“I just can't say enough how proud I am of the work they've done,” said Darlene Spivey, the mayor of Trenton. “Like I said in my speech from fighting fires to hurricanes to a beautiful funeral ceremony they did for my brother in law. It's a family. they work together, they know what they want, and they work hard.”

The new department was funded by disaster recovery grants from the Golden Leaf Foundation.

“I'd say deserving. This community and this county went through a lot. I think they deserve a facility like this this, as well as any other county, has. The people in this community in this county really work hard and support their volunteer fire departments and I think they deserve something like this,” said NC Senator Harry Brown.

The new building replaced a nearly 65-year-old firehouse that had been through major flooding on multiple occasions.

“This is a building the whole community will use. You can just see the turnout today. You can be at bigger counties and you wouldn't see this kind of turnout for a fire department ribbon cutting. It just goes to show how this community pools together and how important these types of things are to a community like this and I'm just glad to be here today it’s a big deal for these people,” said Brown.

The new station will sit on higher ground and have lodging for staff as well as a conference room for meetings and planning.

The Trenton Fire Department posted this message on Facebook, “This station is a testimony to our Trenton district and surrounding areas that we will always strive to provide the greatest possible fire protection service.  We remain grateful and humbled at the outpouring of love and support from our community during our time of reconstruction.”
