DEWD's Perez becomes eighth 'Player of the Week' in 2019

The Down East Wood Ducks added another member to their esteemed flock.

Outfielder Yanio Perez was named “Carolina League Player of the Week” from Aug. 12 through 18 for his stellar play. Perez batted .500 with nine RBIs, a 1.350 OPS and two home runs, including a grand slam against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers Aug. 15.

Perez became the eighth Wood Duck to receive a weekly award and fourth position player. Diosbel Arias, Ryan Dorow and Yonny Hernandez won prior to Perez, with Alex Eubanks, John King, Jake Latz and Tyler Phillips winning “Carolina League Pitcher of the Week” honors.

Overall, Perez is hitting .265 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs with the Woodies this season. This was also his second weekly honor, his first coming with the Hickory Crawdads in the South Atlantic League in April 2017.

The Down East Wood Ducks will be offering concessions deals and team store discounts, as part of fan appreciation for the final seven home games of the 2019 season, the team announced today.
