NL student takes part in national medicine forum

Last week, Anna Rouse, a rising junior at North Lenoir High School, joined outstanding high school students from across the nation to take part in a unique academic and career oriented development experience, The National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Medicine at UNC.

NYLF Medicine is one of the Envision family of programs (www.envisionexperience.com) that enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom. The forum included tours of several N.C. medical schools, along with hands-on learning experiences in the same training simulation centers that med students, residents and physicians use to develop their medical skills.

Rouse was nominated to attend the forum by one of her teachers at North Lenoir, where Anna also participates in cross country and track. With dreams of attending medical school and pursuing a career in the medical field, she said she really enjoyed gaining the hands-on medical experience the forum provided. She is the daughter of Eric and Alice Rouse of Kinston.

“As an alumna of Envision myself, I am excited for Anna to meet, work, and collaborate with other high-aspiring students from across the country and the globe,” Amanda Freitag Thomas, SVP for Envision, said. “Hands down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our assumptions, meet new people, and grow.”
