Parrott takes second in regional Quiz Bowl

Fresh from their March 2 victory at the 41st Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library Quiz Bowl, Arendell Parrott Academy traveled to Halifax County on March 23 for the Eastern Regional Tournament.

Held at the Halifax County Agricultural Center Auditorium, the competition pitted the Patriots against six teams: Alleghany High School, Ayden-Grifton High School, Halifax Academy, Lee County High School, North Davidson High School and Graystone Day School from Stanly County.  

In the double-elimination tournament, Parrott first-year coach Laura Thompson deployed all six of her players, rotating them in and out between games. Captain Rachel Alexander-Lee led teammates Allison Christiano, Natalie Christiano, Simal Omer, Alice Paul and Gabe Steinbaker to finish as runners-up.

Parrott defeated North Davidson, Halifax and Lee County but lost in their first match against Graystone, then lost again to Graystone in the finals.  

“We really appreciate the opportunity to represent the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library in this regional,” Thompson said.  “None of my players are seniors, so we look forward to practicing hard and coming back strong next year.”
