DEWDs lose 5-1 to Winston-Salem
The Down East Wood Ducks offense continued to struggle Saturday night and the result was a 5-1 loss to the first-place Winston-Salem Dash in front of 1,764 fans at Historic Grainger Stadium.
The Woodies (13-30 second half, 48-65 overall) only managed five hits against four Winston-Salem pitchers, and no Wood Duck had more than one hit. The lone DEWD run was of the unearned variety in the third inning when Eric Jenkins scored on a bases-loaded error by Dash third baseman Ti’Quan Forbes.
Three Dash (25-15, 66-44) players – Nick Madrigal, Yermin Mercedes and Laz Rivera – had two hits each in Winston-Salem’s nine-hit attack. Rivera continued his hot streak against the Wood Ducks, smacking a home run – his fifth of the season – and finishing with three RBIs. He had four hits in Friday’s 11-0 rout of the DEWDs and finished a homer short of the cycle that night.
