Pink Hill: Nine things to know about the 2018-19 Pink Hill budget

At its June 25 town meeting, the Pink Hill Board of Commissioners approved the 2018-19 budget of $740,098.31. This year's budget features nearly a $10,000 increase from the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget.

“We get about the same amount of revenue each year so everything is near the same,” Pink Hill Mayor Carol Sykes said. “We only have around 500 people in town so we keep our budget really small and we’ve been able to do that.”

The annual budget went into effect Sunday, July 1.

NINE THINGS:

1. The tax rate has stayed at 55 cents per $100 valuation of property. The rate is based off the valuation of property.

2. The sewer monthly user fee was increased by $1. The sewer rate increased 50 cents per 1,000 gallons for customers as well. The rates will be effective Aug. 1, due to the billing process.

3. The budget includes a 50/50 state grant and four other grants for the Pink HIll Volunteer Fire Department. The PHVFD will receive a skid unit and other equipment and gear.

4. Town employees received a 2 percent cost of living increase.

5. The Park Fund Balance Appropriation has $831.32 available for any work needed at the park. “It's there if we need to fix or replace a swing,” Kim Mitchell, town clerk, said.

6. The water fund is showing a profit of $944.86 with no need to use any of the town’s savings.

7. The General Fund budget includes the purchase of a new laptop for one of the police cars and Police Pak Support for desktop computers in the police department and an all-in-one copier/printer/scanner for the town hall office.

8. The board discussed a lease purchase with Copypro for a new all-in-one copier/printer for the office.

9. The economic development budget was reduced to $125, which is $5 decrease from last year's budget.
