Kinston police arrest three suspects in Mitchell Wooten shooting case
Case Update
On August 29th, 2024, Detectives with the Kinston Police Department obtained and served warrants on Davontae Moore, T-Derrik Artis. Detectives also obtained additional warrants for Joshua Wilson. All of these warrants were related to the shooting that occurred in Mitchell Wooten on Monday, August 26, 2024.
KPD officers were able to locate these individuals and serve the warrants without further incident. They were placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.

-Carrying Concealed Gun
-Assault With Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
-Going Armed to Terror the Public
T-Derrik Artis (22 of La Grange, NC)
-Carrying Concealed Gun
-Possession of Firearm by Felon
Joshua Wilson (additional charges)
-Assault With Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
-Discharged Firearm Within Enclosure

Previous release
On Monday, August 26, 2024, at approximately 5:35 PM, Kinston Police Department’s B & D Squad and the Investigation Division responded to reports of shots fired in the Mitchell Wooten Court area. Upon arrival, officers quickly discovered evidence indicating multiple shooters and secured video footage of the incident. Detectives were able to identify Joshua Wilson, 33-years-old from Kinston, as one of the suspects, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2024, KPD’s SWAT team, in collaboration with other KPD personnel, executed a search warrant at a residence within Mitchell Wooten connected to the shooting. The search led to the discovery and seizure of a firearm inside the residence. Following the search, Joshua Wilson was located elsewhere on the Mitchell Wooten property. Although Wilson is not a resident of Mitchell Wooten, he was apprehended without further incident and subsequently placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond. He faces charges of:
• Carrying a Concealed Gun
• Going Armed to Terror the Public
• Discharging a Firearm in the City
Additional arrests related to this incident are anticipated in the near future. It is important to note that this incident appears to be unrelated to the homicide that occurred the previous day.
