Scammer impersonates LCSO lieutenant, demands cryptocurrency payments for fines
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a scammer calling county residents claiming to be a lieutenant with the LCSO. The scam involves an individual threatening residents by claiming they have an order for arrest for missing jury duty. The scammer offers the option of paying off the fine by getting cash and then instructing residents to go to a cryptocurrency kiosk to transfer the money to the scammer.
“We have had multiple residents contact us about this concern and we are investigating,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “We will prosecute to the fullest extent.”
