Evelyn Dove-Coleman: Women are voting early
Wow Women. When you get women fired up, they show up in droves. Consider the impact of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. It is a group of women with magnitudinal influence. They communicate, they lobby, and they vote. Many times, women influence the men in their lives with their powers of linguistic persuasion. They outline and articulate their position and convince others to side with them.
When I was a young attorney, the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys was formed by some of the sharpest colleagues I had ever encountered. These strong and smart women became a force with which to be reckoned in the profession and throughout society.
The League of Women Voters is another example of a group of women on a mission, known to wield wide influence. So is Lillian's List, which recruits and trains women interested in running for office. There are many other groups, committees, and organizations with profound power. And they have a broad reach.
Different sororities are forming vociferous coalitions to rally citizens to the polls to vote. I am making a public prediction that the November election will go down in history as having a record number of women voters. Women's groups are voting early, and they are using multiple print and electronic resources to urge multitudes of others to do the same. Watch how women work to get voters out.
