Ashley Dawson, the mastermind behind Neuse Barbell Club, has opened up a new fitness center located at 211 South Queen Street. Offering weight lifting, cardio gymnastics, biometrics, and overall functional fitness, the Neuse Barbell Club aims to bring a refreshing approach to exercise that caters to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Dawson, a seasoned trainer with more than five years of experience, shared her journey into starting the Neuse Barbell Club. "I used to be a member here at a local gym and just decided to branch off and start my own," she explained.

The motivation behind this venture was to introduce movements that people often isolate in their day-to-day lives, leading to underutilized joints and movement mechanics. Dawson believes that these exercises are vital for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, especially as people reach their 40s and beyond.

The club offers a variety of class times to accommodate different schedules, including early morning and afternoon options. In addition, Saturday classes encourage a sense of community and teamwork as participants work out together.

Dawson said, "It’s about teamwork...you're looking out for your teammate, and that becomes a special thing. and people love the partner workouts."

When it comes to pricing, Dawson explained that it varies depending on the number of sessions and personal training requests. However, she emphasized affordability, with an average rate of $50 per week for three one-hour sessions. For group classes, the cost is $50 per month, making it accessible for those who want to try it out.

One of the core values of the Neuse Barbell Club is inclusivity. Dawson wants everyone, regardless of age, race or gender, to feel welcome when they walk through the door. She envisions a community where people develop meaningful relationships and gain support from their fellow members.

But the name itself, "Neuse," has a special significance.

Dawson shared, "It had to come from the regionality of the landmark. I mean, for it to be downtown, it just seemed like it was the best option. 'Neuse' explains everything. It's down-home in Kinston. It's nothing off the wall. Everybody knows where it is."

With a commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle and fostering a sense of community, the Neuse Barbell Club under Dawson guidance is the newest addition to Kinston’s fitness scene.

As the club continues to grow, it promises to provide an environment where individuals can achieve their fitness goals while forging lasting friendships along the way. In the end, her vision for Neuse Barbell Club is to create a place where everyone feels welcome, and where fitness becomes not just a daily routine but a lifelong journey toward a healthier, happier life.
