Our new weekly articles have veterans’ news for everyone, keeping Kinston & Lenoir County residents abreast of all veterans’ issues & events. We accept any information concerning veterans. However, we need the information a week in advance---on Monday before it is to be published the following Monday--- sent to dsh2526@gmail.com or dropped off at G.I. Joe’s.

2022 Veterans Day events will be held in Kinston, November 4th & 5th. A brick dedication at the Walk of Honor on Herritage Street begins at 2:30 pm Friday. Followed by a special US flag disposal/retirement ceremony. A small parade will be held at the VA Home for the residents on Saturday. Line-up is at  9:30 am. The parade will begin at 10:00 am off Hull Road. Antique cars, floats, scout groups & decorative vehicles are welcome. That same night, at Kinston High Performing Arts Center, our annual SALUTE! Tribute Show will feature the Tar River Community Band in concert. It’s free & the public is invited. For more information or to register for parade, please call Eric Cantu at 252-560-8031.

Other events happening that Saturday will be a special model airplane show. It will be held at the model airfield behind the old Lowe’s Food Club on Airport Road. It is hosted by the Kinston Aeromodelers from 1:00-4:00 pm. Also, the Beer Barn off East New Bern Road will hold their 4th annual Chili Cook-off that day.  Veterans will be honored during a special program at 6:00 pm. All funds raised will benefit the Lucky Cats program of Kinston.

Help us, congratulate, VFW Post 2771 and Commander Tab Brown for receiving All-State honors for 3 consecutive years as well as All-American honors 2 years in a row! Standards for these honors are very high & quite difficult to meet. Post 2771 was 1 of 37 of 125 honored statewide as well as 1 of 270 of nearly 6,000 worldwide to make All-American. Commander Tab Brown, who is also the Assistant State Service Officer, was recognized as the VFW Department of North Carolina nominee for 2021 - 2022 VFW Accredited Service Officer of the year. Commander Brown urges all eligible veterans to join them on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the American Legion Post on McLewean Street in Kinston at 7:00 pm.
